PIER 1929

Pier 1929 is named after the year when Wanchai Star Ferry Terminal was first built.

Designed by LALA CURIO, this landmark project takes on a nostalgic air of colonial times. Pier 1929 is set to be a private members’ Oriental Club celebrating the art of Chinoiserie with a whimsical approach to honouring intricate traditional Chinese craftsmanship.

The club is rented out for private events and weddings, as a unique alternative to limited hotel options. Its program is designed for a seamless event flow and with sweeping harbour views.

THE ENTRANCE

The curtain wall is dramatically draped with foliage in a colour palette inspired by the underwater world in touches of corals and seaweeds. Foliage is installed in panels that can be detached easily to be customized for any florals fitting for the event.

The entrance façade is smothered in our hand-painted wallpaper. The copper leaf, with whimsical indigenous patterns of geometries, exuding an exciting, mysterious allure combined to create this unique hand-painted wallpaper.

ENTRANCE FOYER

The foyer is embraced with curved panels of LALA CURIO’s signature creation, made in the imperial craft Cloisonné. Each wire is bent into shape by hand with subtle gradations in the patterns of malachite.

The antiqued ceiling tiles amplify the curved cloisonné panel creating more drama and a fun photo op from its reflections.

The Reception desk is made of lucite tubes top and bottom lit.

Floor tiles are all hand glazed creating an aged organic jigsaw.

TREILLAGE ROOM

An indoor garden architectural landscape of latticework with a dramatic open oval ceiling of our fern foliage hand-painted wallpaper with countless hand-embroidered embellishments dazzling in the light.

The oval ceiling is evenly lit from the alcove creating a glowing skylight to amplify its space.

BATHROOMS

Hand-painted blue and white tiles of mythical creatures of the underwater world with large shells-framed mirrors.

Along with our hand-painted wallpaper, LALA CURIO also creates Wonder Pearl Wallpaper embellished with pearls in a coral border across, bringing you through a mysterious underwater fantasy.

GALLERY ROOM

An intimate space with a soft curved screen of a cherry blossoms canopy, one of our hand-painted wallpaper, embroidered with hundreds of flowers made in metal paillettes. The auspicious backdrop frames the perfect traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony for weddings.

Remove the screen and open to another spectacle, the hand-painted wallpaper transports you to a tranquil world with serene bamboo forest painted on gold leaf. this versatile space is great for meetings or events.

The long bar front is of Chinese wood carvings originally found on decorative screens, repurposed into the bar.

The sisal ceiling brings warmth and echos the strong grid from the marquetry floor tiles.

THE CORRIDOR

A theatrical perspectival view of a long ceiling draped with foliage, in colours of the underwater world.

Hand-glazed terracotta tiles allow an indoor-outdoor feeling.

Alcove serves its function, a dichroic glass screen to the pastry chef’s kitchen, a hidden door to the VIP room, shelves for curiosities adorned with LALA CURIO's fern hand-painted wallpaper.

SEASHELL BAR

Each panel of the bar front is a collage of shells handmade inspired by Shell Grotto.

Its pink and gold palette reeks of Hollywood Regency setting the tone for a decadent party.

MONKEY WALL

A bamboo forest with the narrative of a family of monkeys frolicking, popping champagne, and smoking cigars, appeared on a teal silk hand-painted wallpaper. This proudly made hand-painted wallpaper has the treillage details come in and out from two-dimensional to three.

A massive LED screen above allows versatile footage for event use.

PAGODA BAR

A pagoda bar as the main feature and tribute to the Chinoiserie decor and furniture, has a floating DJ booth above for special performances. Its parquet floors are inlaid with intricate metal details, a decadent dance floor.

MAIN BANQUET ROOM

A glass room floating on water with sweeping harbor views lights up with the dynamic skyline of Hong Kong. The floor is of hand-poured terracotta, its pattern mimics the aerial view of a romantic French garden. Each pattern is set with wires on-site and poured in with aggregates layer by layer until set then polished.


Founder and interior designer, Laura Cheung Wolf’s house is an art itself. This place is a combination of love, family, and her view of art. Laura decorates every corner precisely by using refined decorations, chinoiserie furniture, and hand-painted wallpaper.
